Curtin University has established a long-term strategic research and development alliance with
DTI Group Ltd - a Perth based
company that is leading the world in the development and
implementation of public transport video surveillance technologies.
This collaboration enables research activities in the area of large scale surveillance
for public transport to be significantly expanded and will ensure that WA is a recognised
centre internationally in this vital area of research.
Undertaking effective video surveillance on public transport vehicles and places provides
a number of unique challenges, including:
- the complexity of the highly dynamic "moving" environment
- complex event and activity detection
- the need for improved multi-sensor coordination and data fusion
- difficulties in providing reliable, high performance computer systems on board environments which are not computer-friendly
- the capacity to transfer large amounts of data to and from these moving platforms to enable delivery to a central monitoring facility.
This collaboration will provide substantial capability and
infrastructure to address these complex issues and to develop the next generation of
algorithms and technologies that will dramatically improve the effectiveness of public
transport video surveillance installations.
Current Grants:
ARC Linkage Project Research Grant
This project will develop frontier technologies for intelligent surveillance of
public spaces, particularly in the transportation sector. The key outcomes of
this project will be the use of a variety of novel sensors, in combination with
new algorithms for analysing and responding to critical patterns of sensor data.
Our collaborations with DTI as an industry partner will ensure a high probability
of success in the development of these technologies, and accelerate their introduction
into Australian and global markets.
